Welcome to newsletter number 15. I hope you like it. If you do, please tell others, if you don't, please tell me.
I
t is my endeavour to be completely fair in the things that I write or tell you from these pages. If you feel that I have voiced anything that is inaccurate or unfair, please let me know. Lots of things to tell you so let's get on with it...

If you would like me to publish details about any of your equipment or products then please send me some information.

Zeta have a redesigned site at http://www.zetamusic.com/ apart from details about their instruments they also have a section where you can download product manuals. So, if you want to know what their Synthony Midi controller can do, you can download the manual and read all about it.

My friend Guy Fletcher has recently been on tour in the States with his band,
Little Johnny England. One place that they played at was the Kenedy Center. This venue records many of the performances and has them available for you to do play using Real Player. There are peformances from every type of music or stage performance including Ballet, Opera, Folk Music, Rock and everything in between. I like to go to this site, choose a performance and have it playing in the background whilst I am working on other things. Many of the peformances last a full hour. This gives you the oportunity to see and hear many acts that you might never get to see. Little Johnny Englands performance can be found by clicking on this link:

The main Kenedy Center site is at: http://www.kennedy-center.org/ but if you want to search for an artist or a style then go to: http://www.kennedy-center.org/calendar/index.cfm?fuseaction=milStage

NS Design have added a viola to their range of instruments and will be showing it at the various up and comming music events.

My friend Tim Philips (he of the wonderful acoustic instruments) sent me this email. Maybe one of you can answer his question...

Hello from Tim Phillips,   I am seriously planning a trip to the USA this July (probably East side ) with my family, and some of my instruments, with a view to exhibit at Music Shows, Folk Festivals, Fiddle Festivals or any event that would attract lots of fiddlers. There are lots of shows to choose from, so I need some recommendations  that you feel would be relevant for me. Any details, suggestions, contacts etc would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot. Tim -  and of course vist his web site at: www.timsviolins.supanet.com

If you are interested in Mandolins then I can recommend a site similar to mine but dedicated to Mandos at: http://www.emando.com/

New Pictures
This month I have updated the pictures from NJ Hudson and Verdi with their new models. I have also found a new instrument maker(new to me) Waren Davis and have added pictures of their 4 and 6 string electric violins to the gallery.

New Links
I have updated John Pauley's web address to his new one at: www.rev-records.com/REV.htm John has some intersting sound clips of his electric violin and details of the courses that he runs. If you have a few moments give his site a visit. I have also added a link to Davis Violins in the database.

The Electric Violin Book
The Electric violin book is now being sold in Euros and costs 81Euros. The easiest lookup table I have found is at: http://www.x-rates.com/d/EUR/table.html

When you have decided that money is no object and you just have to have this book, please place your order at: http://users.netmatters.co.uk/holliman/Fah100.html#Book

Ask Andy

Worms on the loose

No, not wood worms but them dam pesky computer worms. Have you heard about the Badtrans worm (computer virus) that's been making a nuisance of itself of late. If not, you can read all about it at numerous sites including Symantec's Antivirus Research Center

I know many of you have had personal experience with the Badtrans worm. How do I know that? Because I've received dozens upon dozens of automated e-mails sent out by this worm from infected contacts of mine - some of YOU who have my email address in your address book and who do not have any anti-virus software!!

Now, I'm not too worried about this virus from my end because my virus scanner has had no problems dealing with it. But I am concerned about those of you who are clearly shooting yourselves in the foot by not using up to date anti-virus software. Come on, folks! There are some attacks it's hard to avoid, but no-one should have been bitten by this one. If you were, go and grab yourself a decent anti-virus program and install it now. And once you have it installed, keep it up to date!

There are at least half a dozen decent anti-virus programs available. My personal favourite is Norton Antivirus. Norton AV combines strong protection with exceptional ease of use. It actively monitors your e-mail - one of the prime sources of infection - and it's remarkably unobtrusive.

Best wishes
